No matter which view you’re in, when you tap on a podcast, it will bring up a new popup, with when the latest episode (and title) was, a brief summary of what to expect from that show, and a subscribe/unsubscribe button. You can add a custom podcast by entering the custom URL into the search box, and it will get added in to your list. Searching for a podcast is done by the name or feed URL. I rather enjoy the Networks view, because most of the podcasts that I listen to are pretty much on one or two different networks, so it’s nice to have it all available in one place. The directory is split into five tabs along the translucent menubar at the bottom: Featured, Top Charts, Search, Networks, and Categories. If you are new to Pocket Casts, then tap on the + button to access the directory of podcasts, which will sport a gorgeous dark gray background and red header bars. Once you’re in, you’ll find the main screen, where all of your podcasts will be displayed in a grid format, showcasing podcast art. If not, making an account is as easy as entering in an email and a password, and then tapping “sign up.” If you’ve been a user of Pocket Casts, just sign in with your account. Pocket Casts 4 makes use of Shifty Jelly’s own syncing service, rather than relying on the sometimes-problematic iCloud. It’s a beautiful new redesign that adds a bit of personality to it, rather than just be all white and standard-looking, which makes it stand out from other iOS 7 apps. These were the things that drew me in to Pocket Casts 4, and I’m not regretting my switch. The final touches to make it blend in perfectly with iOS 7 are the translucent header bars and subtle text and playback screen colors that match the podcast artwork. The font has been replaced with a thinner Helvetica option, matching your new OS. However, the dark colors stay when you search through the directory, or when you play an episode. Gone is the dark background of days past, as it has been replaced with a bright white background for most of the screens. Pocket Casts 4 has a brand new design that has been reworked from the ground up to fit alongside iOS 7. For a long time, I’ve been a user of Instacast, but this is about to change now, thanks to the release of Pocket Casts 4. Podcasts can be informative, funny, and just downright fun, making them a great way to pass some time on your commute or just whenever you get a chance. I love podcasts, especially of the tech nature. If you have been on the fence about Pocket Casts before, now is the time to switch over. That is interesting. As it turns out, that mystery is probably quickly solved: It doesn’t offer any download/offline capabilities like the Android and iOS versions of the app. So the next question is whether this is a PWA or a hosted web app. The firm doesn’t offer a native app on Windows or Mac, and it says it has no plans to do so.īut in looking at Pocket Casts for Windows 10, it’s obvious that this is just the web version of the app. This is interesting for a number of reasons.įirst, Pocket Casts was previously available only on Android, iOS, and the web. So it is now available specifically for Windows 10. Well, I have some good news: Shifty Jelly, the makers of Pocket Casts, have just released a new version of the app to the Microsoft Store.
